There are several types of Snap Jaws available. The first one - on the left in this video - is the V-shaped jaw, with 3 V-sizes, A, B, and C that are used depending on the size of the diameter to be held. Next is the back jaw with another leaning up beside it. The last one is the step jaw that you may use in place of a set of parallels.

The ABC jaws are very coinvent for holding round work pieces.

Note in this video that there is also included a moveable stop that is adjustable well outside the jaw itself. For shorter work there are internal stops that are easy to set up.

Snap Jaws can be used to hold rectangular work pieces. This is often more convenient than using a set of parallels.

Machinable snap jaws can be used to create a cavity in the jaw that will allow for a secure work holding of certain work pieces. In this example an end mill is used to create a circular cavity in the machinable part of the set. The work piece is then inserted into the cavity and clamped solidly so that a flat can be machined on it.
