An angle plate can be clamped to the table giving the machinist a perpendicular working surface. In this video a casting is nested in a V-block with one surface of the casting against the angle plate. The casting is then rough aligned so the flange is somewhat parallel to the table. A strap clamp is then used to snug the casting to the angle plate for an indicator alignment.
This video shows that it is sometimes possible as well as desirable to clamp without the use of step blocks.

  • To clamp this part directly to the milling machine's table use a T-slot nut inserted in the milling tables slot.
  • Push the nut under the hole.
  • Use a nut and washer combination and tighten directly in the T-slot nut.
  • This casting will be securely held.
