Boring heads can also be used to machine one or more diameters and steps. These boring bars may or may not be micro adjustable.

Single stage boring bars will make one step in the work piece (figure 1)

Multiple stage boring bars will make two or more steps in the work piece with a single linear feed. (figure 2)
