rapid
A term applied to the absolute maximum "speed" of any machine tool axis. It is not, in fact, a feed rate in that the speed of the movement cannot be programmed by the programmer or operator. The rate of speed in a rapid move is the fastest possible by the machine. However it can be set slower than maximum by a parameter setting in some controllers. Rapid moves are not linear when angle of movement is involved. See linear interpolation.
