WARNING: Machine tools present a safety hazard. Improper operation can result in severe injury. These topics are for non-laboratory study only and are not to be used in conjunction with the operation of any tool or machine described herein. Never use a machine tool without the supervision of a qualified instructor.
Another example where dash numbers are used is in industrial equipment, which frequently comes in different models with slightly different specifications. A hydraulic cylinder, for example, may come with a 6, 12, or 18 inch strokes, but the different models are otherwise identical.

Therefore, each stroke length may have its own dash number on the B/M. The rod and tube will be different lengths, but all other parts in the assembly (end caps, piston, seals, etc) will be identical for all products.
